  1. So this story was really impressive. I loved it. A women that standands up to her husband in those times really gains my admiration. This woman is a good interpretation of the women today. We defy every obsticle and make things happen no matter what people around us think or who agrees with it or not. The fact that her son stood up to the father tells me that she was not the only one tired of living worse than the animals on the farm. Mr. Penn was just a stingy old men when it came to his family. It was stablished that he had money, he would just spend it on animals rather than family. If i were Mrs. Penn I would've done the same thing or even better I would've taken the money that she claimed to have managed from him, for all those miserable years of misstreatment. This story is my kind of story, one that defines strong women that always get what they want.

  2. Mrs. Penn is definitely a clever woman. I love how she stood up not only for herself but for her family as well. She stayed firm to her beliefs and kept her feet well planted on the ground to her conviction. Woman should be a lot like her and it would definitely decrease the mis-treatments in society.

  3. In this written work, Freeman portrays an image of human being, which is not only living in United States of America, but the rest of the word in the late 1800s. Mother is a representation of a female of the late 19th Century. Usually, a mother is considered being subordinate to a husband. In addition, a mother is like a nest of life. The way Freeman described Sarah and Adoniram represented a symbol of minority group that stood up to fight for their rights, because they were neglected by the dominant group. Freeman stated that the forehead of the woman was calm and benevolent between her smooth curves gray hair. In addition, Freeman wrote there were meek downward lines on woman nose and her mouth. It is not a secret that America was not only a patriarchy society, but it was also a country that institutionalized the slavery. The minorities, such as women and slaves, were always perceived as lesser human beings than men. Slaves were thought to be considered less than human beings.

It is necessary to mention that Freeman wrote the Revolt of ‘Mother during the time when the movement of emancipation was necessary for moral society, such as the civil right movement, and the right to vote. Minorities wanted their rights under the Code of Law, like Sarah Penn wanted a response from her husband about the barn he wanted to build.
In the image of ‘Mother’, Sarah illustrates a strong meek woman. She conveys a real portrait of women who struggled to stand up for what they believed during the women’s rights movement.

  4. Well, I read this story and I found it okay, not anything out of the ordinary as the theme of a woman taking control of her life in a marriage that is unfair to her and her family I've seen before many times.

However, I still found myself very interested in finding out what the Husband would do when he found his precious barn occupied by his family but I wanted to see some drama when he came home but I was disappointed. Yes, he was surprised but I just didn't get the ending I was looking for. I thought and suspected that he was going to yell at his family and go crazy and I actually I wanted him to because judging from the time period and the place they were living, I felt like nobody ever discussed or wrote about family fights and arguments. Basically, I knew he was going to react that way but I didn't want him to.
