James Russell Lowell, The Street

  1. James Russell Lowell’s “The Street” was a moving poem that brought thoughts of the poor slaves that suffered oppression. How could people treat others with such contempt, as if they were non-existent because they were colored. Back then the slaves weren’t able to nurture their own children and could not trust a soul. They were afraid of the consequences they would face if they said the wrong thing.
