Carl Sanburg, Blacklisted

  1. This poem is not strange. I've never read anything like it. It's so short and what the narrator is talking about is just bizarre. He wants to change his name so that he can start anew and find a job with a clean name.

What is weird to me is that he desperately needs to change it and his goal for writing the poem is to convince people that it is the right thing to do or else he'll die.

I understand his problem but there are obviously reasons as to why he is now facing such a predicament and I'm sure if he made better choices in his past he would not be considering changing his name so I don't feel much sympathy for him.
