F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Baby Party

  1. Not a story I would read on my spare time. But it was interesting how a party is able to produce so many problems and is able to get the dads attention about his daughter which in the beginning it seemed like he didn’t care much about her. I’ve never heard about a baby party before and I guess they are not that popular because they are just small toddlers and just play and run around. It was more like a grownup party and they had the kids come over because they didn’t have who can baby-sit them. To me all mothers always go with what their child might do like support them and be on their side. I can understand why that party isn’t successful at all. I was surprised when John made it to the party. I have to admit I think Edith was kind of rude or seemed to be because she started laughing. Did she laugh because of her daughter’s laughter? Did she really didn’t care of the little boys injury? I wished it would’ve ended up differently. I wanted to know what happened when Edith went downstairs

  2. Being an Early Childhood Development major this story sent up some red flags, frustrated me but I enjoyed it. I was into the story and then I read the line from the other mother telling the little girl’s mom that she should be spanked. This is atrocious and irks me in the wrong way. Children should never be hit and from research hitting them does not teach them anything but violence and how to pass in on to their children. Another thing is when the little girl pushes the little boy and laughs; children are not that malicious, especially at her age. Children learn these acts and often repeat what they see from the environment, mainly from their parents. Parents do not realize that children pick up on everything. It is not surprising to me that the men got into a physical fight. Men fight, they get it out of their system and then they are over it. Women on the other hand act just like these two women from the story. Catty, mean and they know just the right thing to say to really hurt another. That was a perfect representation of how men and women handle situations differently.
