Terrence McNally, Andre’s Mother

  1. I loved this short play! I was SO upset when Andre’s mother didn’t say anything. Even after Cal poured his poor heart out to her. Maybe I have watched one to many chick flicks, but I was expecting a nice emotional scene with a happy ending. Mother or not, if Andre’s mother can not accept her son’s lifestyle and the people that truly loved him, then she doesn’t deserve any of his stuff. It actually bothered me a little when he said he would send it all over and even pays for it. What is left for him? Memories? He was the one who accepted him. He was the one that tried to reach out to his family. This play has such a sad and upsetting ending.

  2. In the moment when Cal and Andre’s mom stay alone with the balloons is the most intense scene. I actually got a feeling of how Cal was feeling and I thought about many people going through the same thing. This woman in my opinion is not a real mother. A mother loves her children no matter what or who they are. The mother did not shed a tear for her son if that does not show her lack of love for him I don’t know what does. Everything Cal said to the mother was well deserved by the mother’s actions. In fact if I were Cal I would have kicked her ass out of the funeral. She did not deserve to be there. Like Cal said she did not even deserve a name other than Andre’s mother because she was not a person she was a monster. It was clear that Cal loved and cared for Andre as much as the mother should’ve. It was really sad a mother so stubborn that she was un able to love her shild even when dead. But anyways I loved the way Cal confronted her but I would have smacked her and kicked her out like I said.
