Tennessee Williams, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

  1. , I enjoyed reading this play. It was very different from any other play I’ve ever read. It really kept my interest because I wanted to see what happened in the end. And I can actually say I was satisfied with the ending because I was glad that Maggie finally trapped Brick into having to show her affection. So, it was definitely worth the cat staying on the hot tin roof!

  2. I would like to add that Williams seems to portray some greedy people. Maggie is concerned that her husband, Brick's indifference to his dad, Big Daddy. She said that because she wanted to have a baby, which would be a grandson to Big Daddy. According to Maggie, Brick's indifference might cost them their share of the family inheritance. Brick’s wife would like to secure Brick's inheritance. To accomplish her goal, Maggie complained to Big Daddy that Brick refused to make love with her. One may say she was afraid that all inheritance of Big Daddy would be in the hands of Brick's brother and scheming sister-in-law.

  3. I can’t believe how truly dysfunctional this family is. Reading this I am feeling like it is a big Soap Opera. Mae and Gooper are snobby couple with all the children and truly believe everyone likes them. Maggie and Brick are the couple with all of the problems that no one understands. Big Daddy and Mommy are the rock holding everyone together and once they fall apart so does everything else. I loved the ending, but I also feel the ending didn’t really solve anything. After the baby is conceived, Bid Daddy will still be dying, the family will still be arguing, and Brick will still be a drunk.
